About Five Points Family Law

Steady Family Law Guidance
When You Need It Most

Family law touches the most personal parts of your life. Your children, your home, your finances, and your future are all on the line, and you deserve an attorney who understands that your case is about far more than paperwork.

At Five Points Family Law, I help families across Asheville and western North Carolina move through difficult transitions with clarity, dignity, and a plan they can trust.

Meet Attorney Steven M. King

I am Steven M. King, founder of Five Points Family Law. I built my practice around two simple ideas.

Strong advocacy can calm rather than escalate conflict.

Every client deserves an attorney who listens first.

I earned my law degree, cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law in 2016, and I have been licensed to practice in North Carolina since 2019. I began my career as a law clerk for a judge with a busy family law docket, where I learned what courts value and how to prepare a case with care and precision.

From there, I worked for the child support services agency serving Buncombe, Transylvania, and Polk counties. That role gave me a perspective most private attorneys never gain. I understand how child support is calculated, enforced, and modified from the inside, and I use that knowledge to protect the families I represent today.

I later joined a respected family law practice serving families across western North Carolina, handling everything from custody matters to property division, before opening my own firm.

Outside the office, I am a parent myself. I know firsthand how much is at stake when family relationships change, and that understanding shapes the way I support every client.

My Approach

Difficult family matters call for a calm, thoughtful response, not added tension. I focus on early consultation and careful planning, because the choices you make now will shape your family for years to come.

Whenever possible, I work toward negotiated resolutions that protect your interests while preserving important relationships. When a matter does need to be resolved in court, I am prepared to advocate firmly on your behalf.

You can expect clear communication at every stage. When you have a question, I will get back to you.

When it is time to make a hard decision, I will make sure you have the information and perspective to move forward with confidence.
